7 additional deaths reported Monday

Indiana saw only seven new deaths from coronavirus reported on Monday for a total of 569. The state also reported 505 new cases of the illness, for a total of 11,686, according to the state's dashboard. 

Last Monday also saw seven deaths reported, which state health officials attributed to lower reporting over the weekend. The rest of last week, however, about 40 new deaths were reported each day.

Monday’s deaths occurred over a five day period from last Indianapolis News Wednesday to Sunday. The 505 new positive results came between Thursday and Sunday.

Marion County leads the state with 4,052 cases, 172 of which were new Monday, and 192 deaths. Lake County has 1,182 cases, 77 of which were new, and 47 deaths. Hamilton County has 598 people who have tested positive, 22 of which were new cases, and 35 who have died.

Statewide, 23.4% of the 2,863 intensive care unit beds are being occupied by people with coronavirus, according to the state dashboard. Just under 30% of being used by patients with other diagnoses, leaving 47.5% available.


More than 77% of the state’s 3,104 ventilators are available, with 11% in use for those with coronavirus.

Indiana University Health reported Monday that 31% of its Press Release Distribution Service In Indianapolis ventilators were being used and 56% of its intensive care unit beds. There are currently 180 patients in IU Health hospitals with confirmed cases of coronavirus and another 17 suspected cases awaiting test results.

IU Health also reported that 348 of the 3,096 employees it has tested for the virus have been positive.

In all, the state has tested 64,639 people for SARS-CoV-2. Of these, 3,585 were newly reported and performed between April 2 and Sunday. The state is holding drive-thru clinics today through Wednesday in Allen, Clark, Decatur and Lake counties. Allen has seen 19 deaths, Decatur 18, and Clark 11.
